The annual check-up is certainly the ideal opportunity to assess your pet’s overall health. But sometimes we are concerned about changes in behaviour or mood that may be signs of a health problem. A consultation allows you to answer several questions, to have tests done or samples taken that will help to establish a diagnosis and determine the necessary care, or simply to follow up on your animal’s health or take preventive actions, such as vaccines, for example.

Nutrition

The right choice of food for your pet is essential to ensure that its daily life is not compromised by nutritional deficiencies, through every stage of its life. Feel free to ask for advice to make sure you make the right choices. Wizoo also offers a food delivery service to simplify your life. Find out more!

A remote consultation? Yes, it is now possible! An interesting tool for follow-up care, urgent evaluation or advice in a preventive approach.

Vaccines and tests

Some diseases and infections can be the cause of death that could be prevented by vaccination. They may be contracted if your pet is in contact with other animals, for example. Establishing a vaccination schedule should be a priority for every pet owner. What are the costs of opening a file?

There is no charge to open a file at Wizoo. Weren’t we just saying that we were going to reduce your average bill?!

What are the steps involved for a surgical procedure at your clinics?

On the day of the procedure, you will go to the meeting point closest to your home, either at Wizoo Vaudreuil or Brossard. We will then transport your pet to our surgical center in Montreal where the surgeries take place. It is important to note that our surgical procedures are performed only at our Montreal center, and not in Brossard or Vaudreuil.

What is laser therapy?

How does it work?

According to the regulations of the veterinary association, as soon as you have had a physical appointment with your professional Wizoo in the last year, you are eligible for telehealth. It is therefore ideal for follow-ups, emergencies and advice with Taz in your arms, in your favorite chair!

101 LYME disease

Disease that can only be caught by a tick bite

You can’t get it from your dog

Can affect ALL mammals, humans, dogs, cats, mice…

For dogs, the clinical signs range from nothing at all to destroying the kidneys, through sudden and very painful joint pain.

Dogs and cats are protected by vaccinating them every year and with oral treatment 4 times a year

Ticks are active even in December! In fact, as soon as it gets over 4 degrees Celsius. So we protect our pets all year round!

101 RABIES

ATTENTION rabies is a disease still present today with a case reported in June this summer (2019) in a bat!

Rabies is transmitted between mammals through saliva, urine and blood, which means it is transmitted by bites.

Rabies is a fatal disease that affects all mammals, human, dog, cat, mouse, etc.

Vaccination against rabies, even for indoor animals, is a social responsibility because the disease is directly transmissible to humans.

Vaccination against rabies is easy and very effective and mandatory in several countries and municipalities.

101 Dog vaccines

The vaccination protocol will primarily aim to protect you and your family against zoonotic diseases (transmissible between you and your animal).

Rabies is the first priority. As a basic rule, this vaccine should be your first choice if you want to keep your pet indoors or vaccinate as little as possible.

Second priority: Leptospirosis. A relatively rare but directly transmissible disease between your family and your dog. It affects the kidneys and can have important consequences for your health.

Then come the vaccines that protect your dog’s health but whose diseases are not transmissible to humans. We’re talking about, in order of importance:

Basic vaccine: includes juvenile diseases that kill or affect the most animals annually

Lyme vaccine: an emerging disease transmitted by ticks

Kennel cough vaccine: Highly contagious disease (grooming room, dog park, visits to cousins…) between dogs but which is treated with antibiotics.

101 Cat vaccines

The vaccination protocol will aim, in the first instance, to protect you and your family against zoonotic diseases (transmissible between you and your animal).

Rabies is the first priority. As a basic rule, this vaccine should be your first choice if you want to keep your pet indoors or vaccinate as little as possible.

Second priority: the basic vaccine. Includes protection against feline viral Rhinotracheitis. A disease that cats often have already caught at birth, the vaccine helps to stimulate the immune system to allow your cat to defend itself.

Lastly, Leukaemia: A highly contagious disease between cats. It can even be transmitted when cats lick each other. Once the cat is infected, it will remain infected and suffer for the rest of its life. Mostly recommended for outdoor cats.

101 Teeth

Cats and dogs have teeth like ours. Milk teeth that will fall out and adult teeth that make tartar!

Brushing your animals’ teeth from an early age will avoid the cost of cleaning under anaesthesia.

Reminder: Human toothpaste is toxic to animals (Xylitol). You will need a toothpaste for animals WITHOUT XYLITOL.

For toothbrushes: All models are good. Plastic brush to put on your finger or human soft hair brush, everything is fine.

Brush as often as you can. In fact, our animals would need to brush their teeth as often as we do.

Tips: Cowhide snacks, dental croquettes, dental wipes, drinking water additive are all good ideas to help you keep control of your pet’s tartar.

101 EARS

Wash your dog’s ears at least once a week to help you remember to inspect the ears and avoid being caught by unexpected infections.

Use a veterinary grade product so as not to create a problem but to solve one.

Remove as little hair as possible. If you see the ear canal, you don’t need to remove any hair. It irritates your dog’s external ear canal and can induce ear infections.

Irrigate the ears with otic solution after swimming for dogs with drooping ears.

Let the ears breathe. Tie the drooping ears behind the head by the hair in very hot weather or after cleaning to dry everything.

Shave. The hair inside the earlobes and the hair at the inner base of the ears can become oily and warm. Shaving these hairs will facilitate aeration and drying of the external ear canal.

101 Obesity

Most widespread and underestimated disease. It’s consequences are disastrous and it is insidiously settling in.

Physical exercise increases muscle strength and cardiopulmonary capacity but will have little effect on obesity.

Most affordable disease to treat! In fact, reducing the calories consumed will also reduce your food bill.

Calculating calories adjusted to your pet’s metabolic needs is the only effective way to control obesity.

If you are in doubt, have your animal’s BODY CONDITION assessed by a Wizoo certified animal health technician.

101 Nutrition

Nutrition is a specific university concentration and involves extensive academic studies to navigate through it.

Your human and veterinary doctors are not nutritionists but count several university hours in their academic studies on the subject.

Simple errors in the dosage of vitamins, minerals and supplements will have important and sometimes irreversible consequences on your pet’s health.

Corn is a fundamental ingredient in your dog’s nutrition. It is an important source of carnitine and taurine, which are essential for the proper functioning of the heart. A lack of any of these ingredients will lead to a deformity of the heart called dilated cardio-myopathy.

To choose a diet, look for scientific publications in animal nutrition journals often supported by universities.

101 Canine education

A puppy is a baby who has been adopted. Keep in mind that he has just been separated from his mother and siblings. A certain level of anxiety is therefore normal.
The principles of education are always the same. Compassion and guidance. Establish your boundaries and respect them.
A dog can usually hold back for one hour per month of age. So a 3-month-old dog can, during the day, hold back for 3 hours and at night a little more.

101 Kitten education - Claws

A cat comes with claws whether you like it or not.

Rex cats definitely have a unique and very endearing personality.
On the other hand, not having hair has consequences on your cat’s skin.
Rex cats accumulate brownish secretions, yeasts, all over their bodies. Teeth, ears, claws and their skin in general will need to be cleaned regularly.
Use a Malaceutic shampoo once a month and wipes once a week to cleanse skin and nails. Malaceutic ear cleaner can be used to clean the ears. A soft toothbrush and animal toothpaste will be essential for daily teeth brushing.
